Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Thursday signed MoUs for investment of Rs 51,000 crore in renewable energy sector, and unveiled a new policy envisaging addition of 10,000 MW renewable power capacity in the state.
Releasing the Odisha Renewable Energy Policy-2022 (OREP-22) at Make In Odisha Conclave in Bhubaneswar, Energy, Industries and MSME Minister Pratap Keshari Deb said the new policy provides multiple incentives for development of renewable energy projects in the state.
The department of Energy organised a business leadership talk on the theme “Towards Greener Energy”. Principal Secretary, Energy, Nikunja B Dhal welcomed the speakers and delegates of the session which was followed by insightful discussions led by CMD of NTPC, CMD of SJVNL, CEO & MD of TATA Power and MD of Hindalco and the former Director General of International Solar Alliance Upendra Tripathy.
The department signed three MoUs with leading CPSUs for an investment of Rs 51,000 crore. The first was executed between GRIDCO and NTPC Green Energy for development of large scale on-ground solar, floating solar and pumped storage projects in the state. In the first phase, 1000 MW pumped storage hydro and 2000 MW solar projects will be developed with an investment of Rs 17,000 crore.
The second was executed between GRIDCO and SJVN Ltd for development of 2000 MW pumped storage hydro project and 2000 MW ground based and floating solar projects with cumulative investment of Rs. 30,000 crore.
The third was executed with NLC for development of large scale on-ground solar, floating solar, pumped storage hydro and green hydrogen projects in the state. Initially, 600 MW solar capacity and 5 million tonne green hydrogen production has been planned with an investment of Rs. 4,000 crore.
These MoUs are expected to generate 1200 direct and 2600 indirect employment in the state.
