Sambalpur: A minor boy was rescued several hours after he fell from a running train in Odisha’s Sambalpur district on Wednesday.
The five-year-old boy, Pritisprangya Hota, along with his father Manas Hota of Berhampur and uncle was coming in Durg-Puri Express train from Raipur in Chhattisgarh to Bhubaneswar on Tuesday night. While all the passengers were sleeping in the compartment, Pritisprangya got up to go to toilet at around 2 am on Wednesday.
On finding the door of the compartment open, he came to look out of curiousity. At this time, the train gave a sudden jolt and he slipped from the door in a forest area near Angarpada village nearly 4 km from Rairakhol station.
Fortunately, he fell across the parallel track and was injured in head and hands. Though he did not lose consciousness, he could not decide what to do and sat there in darkness.
After several hours, the loco pilot of a goods train coming on the track, spotted Pritisprangya and stopped the train. He rescued the minor boy and took him to Rairakhol station. The Railway officials admitted him in a hospital in Rairakhol. His condition was stated to be stable.
Meanwhile, Manas, who got up in the morning, did not find his son in the berth and started searching for him in the entire train. Failing to find Pritisprangya, he lodged a complaint on RPF helpline number and got down at Dhenkanal station.
Later, RPF informed Manas about Pritisprangya undergoing treatment at Rairakhol hospital. Manas along with his relatives rushed to the hospital and took Pritisprangya home.
