Berhampur: A miscreant took away more than Rs 5 lakh from the side box of a motorcycle in Berhampur of Odisha’s Ganjam district on Wednesday. The incident has been captured in a CCTV camera.
As per reports, Krushna Chandra Maharana of Sunadei village on the outskirts of Berhampur had gone to a bank at Jayprakash Nagar under Baidyanathpur police station in the afternoon. After withdrawing Rs 5.6 lakh from his account, he kept the cash bag in the dickey of his motorcycle and locked it. Then he went to have tea in a shop in front of the bank.
When Krushna came back, he found the bike’s dickey was open and its lock broken. On searching inside the dickey, he found the cash bag missing.
After Krushna lodged a complaint, a police team went to the spot and started investigation. The police checked the footage from CCTV cameras in the area. One such camera close to the road where Krushna’s bike was parked had captured the entire loot incident.
The CCTV footage showed a youth breaking open the bike’s dickey and taking out the cash back. He ran to another bike, which was kept on running condition by another person and both fled. The entire incident took place within seconds.
The police were trying to identify the youth from the footage and trace him, the sources said.
