Rayagada: Police have launched a hunt for three miscreants for burning the books of a meritorious Class X girl at JK Pur village near Chandili in Rayagada district on Saturday.
The girl’s father, Sanjay Prasad, told the media on Sunday that the miscreants barged into their house around 7 pm when he and his wife had gone to the market. They then set fire to his daughter Palak’s books and notebooks and also damaged the trophies she had won.
“The miscreants also threatened my daughter to skip the ICSE board examination and leave Odisha,” he added.
Sanjay suspected that the incident could be the handiwork of some school teachers, “Some of my daughter’s teachers had been forcing her for tuition for the past two years. But as my daughter refused, they might have engaged the miscreants to commit such an act,” he said, adding: “The annual ICSE board examination will begin next month, but my daughter is shattered,”
Rayagada additional SP, Ram Prasad Sahu, said a case has been registered based on the complaint filed by the student’s family. “Investigation is on to ascertain the exact motive behind the incident and the miscreants will be arrested very soon, he added.
The school authorities were not available for comment.
