Jatni: Throwing an open challenge to police, a gang of unidentified miscreants made away with gold ornaments and cash worth over several lakhs of rupees from a jewellery shop at Jatni town in Khurda district late on Saturday.
The incident took place at Gold Plaza and the robbers entered the shop by digging a 2-feet tunnel from a roadside drain.
The incident came to the fore when the owner, Mahesh Kumar Santada, opened the shop this morning.
However, the exact amount of cash and jewellery looted from shop is yet to be ascertained.
A police team, scientific experts and dog squad rushed to the spot and started investigation after collecting evidence and statements from locals.
“The CCTV camera installed inside the shop had gone defunct for past two days. We are trying to analyse CCTV footage of some nearby shops and establishments to identify the accused,” Bhubaneswar DCP Anup Sahoo informed.
