Banaras: There was tension at the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) campus after some unidentified youths opened fire at a student outside a hostel on Saturday night.

Luckily, the student escaped injury. A large police force rushed to the spot and a massive manhunt has been launched across the city. Four bullet casings were recovered from the site, PTI reported.

The incident took place outside Birla ‘A’ Hostel when Roshan Mishra, a third-year undergraduate student, was standing near the gate with his friend Vishal Kumar, as reported by Ne

ws18.
Mishra later filed a complaint that three unidentified youths arrived on a motorcycle and allegedly fired four rounds at them with the intent to kill. One bullet reportedly passed close to their heads before they ran inside the hostel to safety.

The attack was carried out at the behest of two expelled students, Mishra alleged. He had informed the university administration about a possible attack nearly 20 days earlier, the student claimed.

Police teams from multiple stations reached the spot after receiving information about the firing around 9.30 pm, Vaibhav Bangar, ACP (Kashi zone), said.

“Based on the complaint, an FIR has been registered and further investigation is underway,” he added.

Students launched protests after the incident, accusing the university administration of negligence. They blocked roads and raised slogans, alleging growing interference of outsiders in campus and demanding stronger security measures.
