Rayagada: A truck driver was injured when some miscreants fire at him for resisting them in looting alumina powder from his vehicle in the district on Sunday.
According to sources, while the driver, Ramesh Ghadei was carrying alumina powder in his truck from Utkal Alumina plant at Tikiri in the district to Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, the vehicles broke down at Kaliapada Ghat at around 2 am on Sunday.
As another empty truck was crossing the spot, Ramesh stopped it for help. But both of them failed to repair the broke down truck and decided to sleep in their vehicle.
Meanwhile, 5-6 miscreants came armed with guns, swords and other weapons and attempted to loot the alumina powder from the truck of Ramesh. While the other driver escaped, Ramesh hid himself in the driver’s seat. But the miscreants broke open its lock and started attacking Ramesh.
When Ramesh tried to defend himself with an iron rod and ran into nearby forest. The miscreants fired at him, but could not catch him in darkness and left the place.
On being informed, a team from Tikiri police station went to the spot and admitted Ramesh, who had sustained bullet injury in his leg, in hospital.
Police have registered a case and launched a manhunt to trace the miscreants.
