Nayagarh: Unidentified miscreants broke open a house in Similisahi village of Daspalla in Nayagarh district late on Wednesday night and got away with jewellery and other valuables worth lakhs of rupees after injuring the owner.
Three youths reportedly tried to break open a few more houses in the village but were unable to enter. Finally, they managed to break open the back door of Pramod Pradhan’s house waking up Pradhan and his wife. But when they resisted, the miscreants attacked them with weapons and fled with jewellery and other valuables.
According to reports, when neighbours rushed to their house after hearing the couple howling in pain, they found them in a pool of blood. They were rushed to the Dasapalla community health centre (CHC) and provided treatment.
“My wife woke up first and shouted. Then I woke up and grabbed a miscreant. But they attacked us with weapons and fled with jewellery and other valuables kept in suitcases while we were shouting in pain. See I have got so many stitches on my head,” showed Pradhan to media.
On being informed, the Dasapalla police reached the spot and began a probe.
As per locals, theft cases in the region were common earlier but had stopped altogether after the new police station-in-charge of Daspalla took over. “It has begun again,” they lamented.
