Cuttack: Unidentified armed miscreants allegedly looted gold ornaments and cash from a businessman in Kandarpur area of Odisha’s Cuttack district after opening fire in the air on Wednesday.
The broad daylight heist reportedly took place near Matagajpur railway level crossing under the jurisdiction of Kandarpur police station.
According to preliminary information, a group of around six bike-borne youths intercepted gold trader, identified as Bikas Patra of Hatasahi, and tried to snatch the bag containing gold ornaments and other valuables from him.
The attackers reportedly opened fire in the air when the businessman offered resistance. While Patra had a narrow escape as the bullets did not hit him, he miscreants decamped with the valuables.
On being informed about the incident, a team of police personnel was immediately sent to the spot. Police have launched an investigation and efforts are on to trace the miscreants.
The exact value of the looted items is yet to be ascertained. Further details are awaited, police said.
