Puri: In a daring act, unidentified miscreants struck at a marriage party reception and fled with valuable gifts, including gold ornaments and cash, received from relatives and friends in Odisha’s Puri town.

As per reports, the incident took place at a hotel in Baliapanda sahi of the seaside town on Monday night when the groom’s family was holding the marriage reception party.

A large number of guests, including relatives and friends, attended the reception and gifted cash and jewellery to the newly married couple. The family members had collected all the gifts and kept these in a bag.

However, the bag containing the valuable gifts appeared to have been left unattended for some time and later it was found missing.

Following examination of CCTV footage, it was found that two miscreants were involved in the loot. While one of the two waited outside the hotel gate, another decamped with the bag from inside the hotel.

A complaint has been filed at Baliapanda police station following which the police have launched a probe in this connection.

It may be recalled here that robbers dressed as ‘Baratis’ had looted over Rs 5 lakh cash and jewellery from a wedding mandap in Bhubaneswar last month.
