Nayagarh: Miscreants allegedly looted gold, silver jeweller and cash from newly-built Ram Temple atop Giri-Govardhan hill at Fatehgarh in Odisha’s Nayagarh district on Tuesday night.

The matter came to the fore when the temple priest arrived at the temple and found the main door open with the ‘hundi’ (donation box) completely emptied on Wednesday morning.

According to sources, the miscreants broke open the main door and the donation box and decamped with gold, silver jewellery, and cash worth around Rs 1 lakh. The temple committee has informed the Fatehgarh police about the loot.

Neither the temple committee members nor the police were available for comments.

The Ram temple at Fatehgarh was inaugurated on January 22, coinciding with the consecration ceremony of Ayodhya Ram Mandir. It was built at a cost of more than Rs 10 crore with donations from villagers and well-wishers from across the state. The 73 feet temple atop Giri-Govardhan hill has been constructed using ‘Baulamala’ stone. It is located 1,800 feet above the sea level.
