Bhubaneswar: Four unidentified miscreants allegedly looted more than Rs 7 lakh from additional secretary of a cooperative committee at gun-point near Balugaon in Khurda district on Tuesday.
According to sources, the incident took place when Bhubaneswar Rath, additional secretary of Seva Cooperative Committee at Barkul in Khurda district, was taking Rs 7.25 lakh collected from the farmers who had availed loan from the committee.
Bhubaneswar was going on his bike to deposit the amount in Khurda Cooperative Seva Samiti Bank at Khurda. The four accused came on three bikes and intercepted him at Injanpur square near Govindpur. As they pushed him, Bhubaneswar fell down.
The miscreants threatened Bhubaneswar with a gun and took away the money from the dickey of his bike and mobile phone. The local people, who came to know about the incident, informed the police.
A police team led by Balugaon IIC rushed to the spot and launched an investigation. While the miscreants are yet to be identified, the police have launched a manhunt to trace them.
