Angul/Nayagarh: Unidentified miscreants looted more than Rs 2 crore in cash and gold jewellery from two banks in Angul and Nayagarh districts on Friday.
The first incident was reported from Angul district after a group of six masked men robbed more than Rs one crore in cash and gold jewellery worth several lakhs from a branch of Andhra Bank located at Bazaar Square.
According to sources, the looters who came on two motorcycles, entered into the bank and held the customers and officials at gunpoint. They later locked up the officials in a room inside the bank and decamped with the money and jewellery kept in the strong room.
Police have started investigation on basis of the CCTV footage available with some shops located near the bank to identify and nab the criminals.
In another incident, five dacoits looted nearly 200 packets of gold ornaments and cash to the tune of Rs 80, 000 by breaking the locker of Sarangadharpur Gramya Bank in Nayagarh district.
