Khurda/Balasore: In a series of loots, miscreants decamped with valuables from five shops, on the outskirts of Khurda town, while a businessman was attacked and robbed of cash in Balasore late on Wednesday.

According to sources, the miscreants looted two optical shops, a grocery shop, medicine shop and tailoring shop.

While one of the optical shops targetted was located near the Khurda SDPO office, the remaining are in Tarachua market in Saradhapur block, on the outskirts of the town.

Preliminary investigation by the Town Police revealed that the miscreants had come in a mini truck and broke into the shops with the help of a iron chain.

Similar incidents were reported in the town area last month in which the miscreants had looted 10 shops.

In another incident, the miscreants snatched away a gold chain and cash from a local businessman near Baselipur at Daradia under Bahanaga police limits in Balasore district late on Wednesday.

According to sources, Tusharkant Sahu, a local businessman, was on his way home on motorcycle after collecting cash from retailers in the night when he was intercepted by three bike-borne miscreants. As the miscreants pulled his cash bag, Sahu fell down from his bike. Later, they took away the gold chain and the cash bag containing Rs 15,000 from him at gunpoint and fled the area.

Sahu, who fractured his leg, was rushed to the district headquarters hospital.
