Bhubaneswar: In yet another case of snatching in broad daylight in Odisha, two miscreants took away a jewellery shop owner’s bag containing ornaments worth lakhs of rupees in Rayagada district on Monday.
According to police sources, the businessman, Santosh Kumar Sahoo, was opening his showroom at Ambadola in the district at around 9 am when the miscreants came there on a bike.
While on of the miscreants got down from the bike, the other kept it running. Sahoo had kept the bag containing jewelry on the floor and was busy opening the locks.
The miscreant rushed there, lifted the bag and fled with his accomplice on the bike even before Sahoo could raise his voice for help. The entire episode was captured on CCTV camera of the shop.
Sahoo, who filed a police complaint at Ambadola police station, stated that his bag contained more than half a kg of gold ornaments. The police were verifying the CCTV footage to identify the accused, the sources said.
In a similar incident in November, six masked miscreants snatched the jewellery bag of a shop owner in Keonjhar district at night when he was returning home with his son. The jeweller claimed that his bag contained ornaments worth around Rs 25 lakh.
