Bhubaneswar: Unidentified miscreants reportedly stole cash from a donation box at the famous cave shrine of Gupteswar in Odisha’s Koraput district.
According to sources, the miscreants broke the lock of one of the donation boxes placed near the main gate of the shrine and took away cash on Thursday night.
The incident came to light when a youth engaged at a ticket counter of the shrine spotted the damaged lock on Friday morning.
Temple priests then informed the incident to the Endowment department and local police.
A team of police personnel visited the spot and launched a probe into the incident.
It may be noted here that the state government has sanctioned Rs 20 crore for the development of the cave shrine, located in Boipariguda block of Koraput district.
As per the plan, the shrine will be transformed into a famous religious, historical and tourism spot without disturbing the natural ecology.
