According to sources, three idols were stolen from Isaneswara temple at Srimukundapur under Gadisagoda police limits of Kanas block. The theft of idols from the Shiva shrine came to light as the priests came to the temple for performing morning rituals and found the doors open.
Later, they discovered the idols of Shiva, Parvati and Radhakrishna missing from their places in the temple. On being informed, the police have reached the village and launched an investigation.
All the three idols have antique value with one of those stated to be 40 years old.
Idol theft has been reported from 5 temples in the district in the last two months.
Since Isaneswara temple is 500 years old, the locals have demanded adequate security arrangements to prevent such incident in future.
