Bhubaneswar: “We the people of Odisha believe that our strength lies in our simplicity and whatever heights we may rise to, we love to remain down to earth.” This is how Amita Panda, Mrs India Galaxy 2018 summed up the glory of the people of her state in the competition’s cultural round.
“I am on cloud nine! That was the best moment of my life. Most importantly, I was representing my state there and showing that yes, a working woman who is a mother is at par with other young title holders,” said Amita, shrieking with joy.
With zero experience in modeling but years of practice and passion, this mother of one got through the audition held in the city earlier this year. “There was a walk, talent and interview round. I didn’t expect to get through,” said Amita.
The finale was a five-day programme full of activities. “After the selection, we had weeklong activities like creating social awareness against domestic violence and creating funds for an NGO to name a few,” Amita added.
In Delhi, there was a cultural costume round, talent round, PPT round, three walks with different costumes, portfolio round and a question-answer round. The best moments for Amita were the crowning and the interaction with women from diverse backgrounds.
“It was always my dream to be a fashion icon. I got this opportunity and grabbed it,” said an enthusiastic Amita. The fashion enthusiast said the contest was very tough “as the finalists were from different parts of the country and most of them were title owners of their respective states.”
“I used to dedicate an hour daily for the preparations which included exercises, walk practice, soft skills and preparation for the talent round,” she further said.
Mrs India Galaxy is a beauty contest organised by ‘Vibrant Concept’ to bring upfront married women and others alike.
