Missing Boy Case: Odisha Rights Panel Orders Rs 5 Lakh Compensation To Two Convicts

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) has asked the state government to pay a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to two convicts in connection with a case relating to a missing case of a minor boy in Paikamal area of Bargarh district.

Talking to the media on Thursday, counsel of the two convicts Biswapriya Kanungo said that a minor boy of Paikamal area went missing in 2016. Following a complaint lodged by the family members, police arrested two persons and sent them to jail after registering a murder case.

When the minor boy returned home alive in 2018, the two convicts, alleging their wrongful confinement, moved the OHRC seeking action against the police officer concerned.

“The Commission, after hearing the plea of the two convicts, directed the Home Department to pay a compensation of Rs 2.5 lakh each to the two convicts and collect the said amount from the police officer concerned within two months,” Kanungo said.
