Kendrapada: The body of a college girl, who had been missing since Thursday night, was recovered from an abandoned pond in Mahakalapada area of Odisha’s Kendrapada district on Saturday.
According to preliminary information, the body of the girl was found in a pond, around 200 metres from her house near Jadupur village under the jurisdiction of Marsaghai police station.
Sources said the girl was missing since 10 pm on Thursday. She was a Plus III final-year student at Marsaghai College.
Preliminary investigation showed the body had a deep cut injury on her neck, raising suspicion of foul play. Bloodstains were reportedly found at four different locations near the victim’s house. A knife was also found at the scene.
On being informed, a team of Marsaghai police rushed to the spot and launched an investigation with the assistance of a scientific team. Prima facie evidence indicates murder which may have stemmed from a one-sided love affair. However, exact circumstances and motive behind the alleged murder are yet to be ascertained.
Police are examining the bloodstains, the suspected weapon and other evidence to piece together the sequence of events. Further investigation is underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the student’s death and identify those responsible.
