Rourkela: A 16-year-old girl of Class X, who had gone missing, was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a forest area located under in Bisra police station limit of Odisha’s Rourkela.
As per information, the girl was rushed to a hospital, after being located and was declared dead by doctors.
Rourkela Superintendent of Police Nitesh Wadhwani told media that it appears to be a case of suicide as pesticide was found near the site where the girl was located. However, a thorough investigation is underway t
o ascertain the exact cause of death.
Police said the student had left her house on Thursday morning, informing her family that she was going to school. However, when she failed to return home, and it was later confirmed that she had not attended school, her family lodged a missing persons complaint at the local police station.
Based on the complaint, police launched a search operation and traced the girl to a nearby forest area. She was immediately shifted to a hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
The girl’s bicycle and a bottle allegedly containing poisonous substance were found from the forest.
Asked whether the girl was subjected to sexual assault, the SP said the case is being investigated from multiple angles to determine the circumstances that led to the death of the girl.
A scientific team was also sent to the site to examine the place and assist in ascertaining the exact cause of death.
