Berhampur: The body of a 7-year-old girl, who had been missing since Thursday evening, was found in a pond at a village in Belaguntha area of Odisha’s Gajnam district on Friday.
The incident took place at Diliba village under the jurisdiction of Belaguntha police station in the district. The body of the minor girl was spotted in the pond in the morning.
As per reports, the girl went missing on Thursday evening after the 11th day of rituals for her grandmother who had passed away. The girl’s family members, who were busy in rituals throughout the day, searched for her after they failed to find her in the evening. Despite frantic search, they were unable to trace her.
However, some villagers spotted her body floating in the village pond on Friday morning when they had gone to the pond to take bath. On being informed, family members of the minor girl rushed to the spot and informed police about the incident.
Police have registered a case in this connection and investigation into the incident is underway.
