Rourkela: A 44-year-old farmer, who went missing under mysterious circumstances from Odisha’s Sundargarh district on February 29, was allegedly murdered and his body dumped in a farm in the neighbouring Jharkhand.
The farmer, Mangal Oram of Jamberna village in Bisra, reportedly disappeared with his pick-up van after dropping some farmers at Jhirpani weekly market. His body was brought to his native place on Saturday. Villagers suspect that he might have been murdered for his van.
According to reports, the last call Mangal received on his phone was from one Sukru Pradhan. Soon after, the phones of Mangal and Sukru were found switched off and both went missing. Villagers even visited Sukru’s native place at Theteitangar in Simdega district of Jharkhand. But he was not present there. His family also lodged a missing report at Jhirpani police station on March 1.
Zone-I DSP Pushpanjali Ningi told the media that a murder case has been registered and the culprits would be arrested soon. While stating that physical evidence and digital footprints are being analysed, she added that his vehicle is yet to be traced.
