Bhubaneswar: The government doctor, who went missing from his official quarters in Odisha’s Malkangiri on June 1 night, has been traced to Mysuru in Karnataka.

A native of Kandhamal, Amlan Bhoi, was posted at Kalimela community health centre (CHC) since January.

Addressing a presser, Malkangiri SP Nitesh Wadhawani said that the doctor was not kidnapped. “He was found in good health in Karnataka and efforts are on to bring him back,” he added.

However, it is still not clear how the events unfolded. A 5-member police team has left for Mysuru to bring him back, sources said.

While role of Left-wing extremists was suspected in the disappearance of the 29-year-old doctor after a Maoist poster was found from his quarters, police had earlier refuted it. While mentioning that the doctor was not guilty of any wrongdoing, the poster raised various demands like transfer of all the old staff of Kalimela CHC and posting of specialists in the hospital.

There were also reports that Bhoi had a heated exchange with relatives of a woman patient, who was received dead at Kalimela CHC on May 31, over conducting a postmortem as per the rule. It was suspected that they might have abducted the doctor.

Bhoi’s family had also met Kandhamal collector and SP and appealed for his safe return.
