Bhubaneswar: In a new turn to alleged kidnap of Plus II student of a private college in Bhubaneswar on Saturday, police on Sunday claimed that the boy and his family had staged the kidnap drama.
According to police, Ramakrishna Panda, who works as a marine pilot in Paradip of Jagatsinghpur, filed a complaint at Chandrasekharpur police station at 6.05 pm on August 27, stating that his 16-year-old son, Hrudayesh Panda, a Plus II student of Koutilya Institute at Patia, was missing from his hostel.
During investigation, police ascertained that the minor boy was asked to vacate the hostel due to non-payment of outstanding dues of Rs 95,000 on Friday. He left the hostel with his baggage and checked into hotel Suraj Palace adjacent to Kautilya College and stayed in Rom No 1 at 10.11 pm.
Hrudayesh contacted his father from the mobile phone of Bapuji Das, the receptionist of the hotel at 10.34 pm. Next day at 10.38 am, his mother along with others arrived at the hotel and met him. Thereafter, she went to Kautilya College and enquired about her son. Hrudayesh’s mother and others were engaged in heated exchange of words with the hostel manager.
Thereafter, Ramakrishna and his wife filed the complaint at Chandrasekharpur police station that their son had been kidnapped.
On the same day, Ramakrishna went to Suraj Palace hotel at 08.46 pm, paid Rs 1000 from his ATM card towards the room tariff and left the hotel at 08.56 pm along with son.
The police claimed that the entire incident has been recorded in CCTV camera of the hotel.
