Koraput: The body of a missing youth, Subash Badnaik, was exhumed from the backyard of a house in Tikarpada village under Lamtaput police limits on Monday.
Badnaik of Tikarpada village was missing since September 19 and his family had filed a complaint at Nandapur police station. Police was investigating the matter.
The matter to light on Monday when a boy herding cows smelt rotten near the house of one Chandra Khemundi. The cowherd informed locals who alerted Nandapur police. Police reached the spot and started digging the backyard to find the body.
The body was exhumed and identified by Badnaik’s family as their son. Angry family members of Badnaik, set the house of Khemundi on fire and staged protest.
Police have been deployed in the area to check the matter from escalating further.
MLA and District Planning Committee Chairman Raghuram Padal also rushed to the spot and interacted with the locals as well as police. He also assured the villagers of action against the accused after police investigation.
Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the matter.
