New Delhi: President Ram Nath Kovind on Thursday said the Centre will endeavour to clean River Mahanadi in Odisha on the lines of the Namami Ganga initiative.
Addressing the joint session of both Houses of Parliament here, he said like the clean Ganga programme, Mahanadi will be made free of pollution along with other rivers such as Kaveri, Periyar, Narmada, Yamuna and Godavari.
The ambitious Namami Ganga project has so far seen an investment of Rs 28,451 crore to clean up the length and breadth of River Ganga.
The President said the government will accelerate the campaign for the closure of drains releasing effluents into Ganga.
