Bhubaneswar: The central government has launched an investigation into the appointment of 15 civil servants suspected of obtaining their positions with fraudulent or dubious reservation certificates.
Out of 22 officers flagged, Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has shortlisted 15 for scrutiny. These include two IAS officers each from Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana, and one each from Odisha, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Kerala, along with two IPS officers in the Ministry of Home Affairs, an IRS officer in the Revenue Department, and an IFS officer in the Ministry of External Affairs, The Print reported.
Most officers under investigation were selected between 2015 and 2023.
The state governments have been asked to verify the caste, income, and disability documents submitted by these officers.
The probe followed complaints by Pune-based RTI activist Vijay Kumbhar, who pointed out irregularities in UPSC selections and inadequate verification.The certificates in question pertain to categories such as OBC, SC, ST, EWS, and PwBD, the report added.
