Cuttack: The Odisha government on Tuesday informed the Orissa High Court that a total of 870 trees will be felled for the construction of apartments in Bhubaneswar for MLAs and that 8,700 trees —10 times of the number felled — would be planted.
The state government informed the HC that the felling of trees and other activities for the construction of apartments for MLAs were being carried out withing the provisions of law.
Social activist Jayanti Das has filed a PIL in the HC against the felling of trees in the heart of Bhubaneswar.
The HC fixed September 7 as the next date of hearing and asked the petitioner to file her response.
