Bhubaneswar: Senior Congress leader and Jeypore MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati has resigned from the party’s chief whip post.
Speaking to media persons on Sunday, Bahinipati said he resigned from the post due to personal reasons and nobody should read much into it.
“I have been holding the post of chief whip of the Congress for a long time. I have resigned from the post on personal grounds,” he said. There was no pressure on him from any quarters to tender resignation, he added.
The party’s Odisha in-charge A Chellakumar had recently said that there would be a complete overhaul in the party organisation in the state.
Following this, there was a buzz that Bahinipati had resigned. He confirmed the resignation on Sunday.
The Congress legislator, who had earlier demanded change in party leadership in the state, said he was not in the race for the post but would not turn it down, if given the responsibility. “I am not lobbying for OPCC president post. If the party high command thinks me suitable for it, I would carry out the responsibility with sincerity and dedication,” he said.
