Puri: Mo Beach initiative, a dedicated beach cleanup campaign, was carried out at 50 locations along the coastline of the district on Saturday.
Teams of volunteers took up the programme in Puri Municipality, Konark NAC and blocks of Astaranga, Kakatpur, Gop, Krushnaprasad, Brahamagiri in the district. Officials from different departments of the district, Forest department, Block Youth Coordinator, SHG and Neheru Yuva Kendra participated in the drive. All guidelines of COVID-19 were followed during the entire event.
The campaign aims to clean the entire sea beach of the district and promote awareness among the people. In the long run, the campaign plans to establish a self-sustainable solid waste management for the beaches steered by the locals.
The drive was launched by volunteers under the guidance of Beach Management Committee on sea beach in Puri on June 18 last year. It was carried out in Puri every Tuesday and first and third Tuesday of every month in GP and NAC areas.
The beach cleaning drive, which was temporarily stopped due to COVID-19 pandemic, was restarted in Puri Municipality on Saturday.
