Cuttack: A ‘Mo Bus’ caught fire while it was running at a busy junction in Odisha’s Cuttack city on Saturday night.
According to sources, the bus, operated by the Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT), was coming to Cuttack from Bhubaneswar. Smoke started to come out of its engine as the bus was approaching the city.
As it reached Madhupatna Square, a busy junction, the engine was on fire. Its driver stopped the bus and tried to extinguish the fire. But he failed in his efforts and the fire spread to entire bus in no time.
On being informed, the Fire services personnel rushed to the spot and started to douse the fire. As the entire bus was on fire, they struggled to bring it under control.
Hundreds of vehicles on both sides of the road were stranded due to the incident which took place at a rush hour.
While the exact cause of the fire has not been ascertained, it is suspected to have been started by electrical short circuit.
Fortunately, nobody was injured in the incident. But it has not been confirmed whether passengers came out of bus in time or there were no passengers.
