Rourkela: The Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) has clarified that the Mo Bus that caught fire in Rourkela did not have any passenger at the time of the incident.
The CRUT, in a press release, stated that the Mo Bus Captain on duty noticed a technical snag in the bus no. OD 14 AB 6676 and informed the route supervisor. The supervisor immediately sent another bus which took the commuters to their destination after they were safely shifted.
On the way to the depot for maintenance, the empty bus caught an unexpected fire at Space Chowk in the city. Emergency services were immediately notified and the Fire personnel brought the fire under control. Nobody was injured in the incident due to timely detection of the issue by the Mo Bus Captain and the prompt response of the CRUT staff.
Following the incident, an urgent meeting was conducted by CRUT with its local team at Rourkela, operator and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), Tata Motors. They tried to determine the cause of the fire and the steps to be taken to prevent such incidents in future.
A team from the Tata Motors was also rushed to Rourkela to investigate the cause of the incident and take remedial action. Police have been requested to investigate to find out if there was any sabotage, the CRUT said.
