Keonjhar: An irate mob set ablaze a truck after it crushed to death a woman at Bidyadharpur canal square near Anandpur in Keonjhar district on Thursday.
The mishap took place when the woman, identified as Reemarani Swain, who was travelling in a motorcycle with her husband, was hit by a sand-laden truck. The woman died on the spot, while her husband Jagannath Swain sustained critical injuries in the accident.
Protesting the incident, a group of locals of the area torched the truck and later staged a road blockade demanding adequate compensation to the family members of the deceased and action against the vehicle’s driver, who immediately fled the spot soon after the accident.
The protestors withdrew the road blockade after getting assurance from the police of prompt action.
