Bhubaneswar: A mobile snatcher and his associate have been arrested and six handsets seized from their possession by the Commissionerate of Police. The arrested are Bijay Kumar Pradhan and Jayakrushna Pradhan of Mundia Sahin under Nayagarh Town police limits.
They were wanted in multiple cases of mobile snatching in the city. The two were active in Chandrasekharpur, Nayapali, Badagada, Infocity and Khandagiri areas.
On May 13, they followed a girl on her way to a hostel near Mahima Mishra lane and snatched her mobile phone near Baramunda bus stand. The girl lodged a police complaint following which a probe was initiated into the snatchings. The probe led to a breakthrough in other such incidents in the city.
The police have also seized a speed bike from the accused and are verifying the vehicle’s credentials. They were booked and produced before the court, the police said.
In a special drive against street crime by the CP, 9 mobile snatchers and pick picketers have been arrested and 36 mobile phones and a bike recovered in last 24 hours.
