Bhubaneswar: In a remote village of Kandhamal district where cell phone connectivity was an issue, locals and BSNL authorities teamed up to build a tower out of discarded materials.
Around 5,000 villagers of Tilori panchayat are benefiting from the service.
Locals with block authorities spent Rs 25,000 to raise the tower using old tube well pipes. BSNL authorities installed the required equipment on it.
Earlier, the villagers had to climb up the hills for signals. Now, youngsters are reportedly happily using Facebook and WhatsApp on their phones.
Sarpanch Bishnu Charan Pradhan thanked Kandhamal Collector Brunda D, Daringbadi block development officer (BDO) Bhaktabandhu Janarddan Dalei and all the district and Baliguda sub division-level BSNL officials for their help and support.
