New Delhi: The discussions are being held between the Indian government and COVID-19 vaccine manufacturers Moderna and Pfizer over several issues including indemnity waiver, Member (Health), NITI Aayog, Dr VK Paul said.
“We are in touch with them. We are holding discussions. It is a process of negotiation and dialogues. We are trying to get a solution on contractual and commitments issues. This process is ongoing,” Paul was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
The regional director of the World Health Organisation (WHO) South-East Asia, Dr Poonam Khetrapal Singh informed the agency that Moderna has offered 7.5 million doses through Covax.
It may be recalled that US biotechnology company Moderna had announced in June that India has allowed its COVID vaccine to be imported for emergency use.
However, Pfizer has not even applied for an emergency use authorisation in India.
Moderna and Pfizer had asked for indemnity to ensure that they can’t be held responsible for any adverse effects of the vaccine.
