Moderna Vaccine Effective After 6 Months Too

New York: Moderna on Thursday announced that its COVID-19 vaccine was almost as effective after six months as it was in the original trial.

After six months of the second dose, the vaccine was found to be about 93 per cent effective. In the original trial, it was 94 per cent effective, thus showing hardly any change.

The company, however, said booster shots will be required as antibody levels are expected to dip in winter. Pfizer too is planning a booster shot.

Pfizer and BioNTech last week had revealed that their vaccine’s efficacy drops by around 6 per cent every two months to around 84 per cent in six months after the second dose.

Pfizer is expected to make around 3 billion doses in 2021 while Moderna will be manufacturing around 800 million.
