New Delhi: The Congress on Sunday upped the ante on the BJP-helmed Union government, questioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence on the Hindenburg Research report against Adani Group and the stock rout of Gautam Adani-led conglomerate.

Pointing out Modi had stated at the G20 summit in Hangzhou on September 5, 2016, that safe havens for economic offenders need to be eliminated, and money-launderers must be tracked down and unconditionally extradited, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said PM has to answer some questions now.

“You and your government cannot hide from saying HAHK (Hum Adani Ke Hain Kaun),” the Congress General Secretary (Communications) said at a press conference on Sunday. The Modi government’s “loud silence” on the issue “smacks of collusion”, Ramesh alleged.

“PM Modi’s friend Gautam Adani is accused of the world’s biggest scam. But the prime minister is silent. No investigation has been done, and no action has been taken,” Congress tweeted from its official handle.

Urging Modi to keep answers ready, the party said it will hold a countrywide protest on Monday.

The 10 listed Adani Group firms have faced a combined erosion of over Rs 8.76 lakh crore in the past few days after the Hindenburg Research report.

Adani group stocks have taken a beating in the Indian share market after a US-based short-seller firm Hindenburg Research made a litany of allegations against the conglomerate, including fraudulent transactions and share price manipulation.

The 10 Adani Group listed firms have seen a combined erosion of over Rs 8.76 lakh crore in the past week and a half following the release of the scathing Hindenburg report.
