Wuhan: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Saturday, held ‘Chai Pe Charcha’ with Chinese President Xi Jinping in the final day of his two-day tour in Wuhan. The two leaders walked along the East Lake and also enjoyed a boat ride.
Later, foreign Secretary Vijay K Gokhale said that the two countries have decided to use militaries to strengthen communication.
“The two leaders underscored the importance to maintain peace and tranquillity in the India-China border region. Therefore, the two leaders have decided that they would issue a strategic guidance to the respective militaries of both countries, to strengthen communication, to build trust and understanding, to implement various confidence-building measures and to strengthen existing institutional mechanism to prevent and manage situations in the border areas,” Gokhale said.
Recognising terrorism as a global problem, both Modi and Xi stressed on taking steps to deal with it at bilateral and multilateral levels.
“PM Modi and President Xi also recognised the common threat posed by terrorism and both reiterated their strong condemnation of a resolute opposition to terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. Both committed to cooperate further in counter-terrorism,” Gokhale said.
On the first day of his two-day visit, Modi held ‘informal talks’ with President Xi to ‘solidify’ the India-China relationship in Wuhan. The meeting between the leaders is cited to be crucial after the countries were at loggerheads over the Doklam stand-off last year, which lasted for 73 days.
