Bhubaneswar: Justice Mohammad Rafiq was on Monday administered the oath as the 31st Chief Justice of Orissa High Court by Governor Ganeshi Lal at Lok Seva Bhawan in Bhubaneswar.
President Ram Nath Kovind on April 23 had appointed Justice Rafiq as Chief Justice of the Orissa HC following a recommendation by the Supreme Court Collegium on April 18.
After the retirement of Justice KS Jhaveri on January 5, the Orissa HC has been functioning under Acting Chief Justice Sanju Panda.
A graduate in Law from Rajasthan University, Justice Rafiq was enrolled as an advocate at the Bar Council of Rajasthan in 1984. He was appointed as Additional Advocate General for Rajasthan in January 1999 and elevated to the bench of the Rajasthan High Court in May 2006. He was appointed as the Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court in November 2019.
