Mohan Majhi Govt Completes 2 Years: Crucial Odisha Cabinet Meet Tonight!

Bhubaneswar: As the BJP-led government under Chief Minister Mohan Majhi completes two years in office, a crucial cabinet meeting is scheduled for 8 pm on Friday at Lok Seva Bhawan, where major policy decisions, primarily targeting women and youth empowerment, are expected.

The government had made four historic decision within 24 minutes of the first cabinet meeting, which was held on June 12, 2024, which included reopening all four gates of Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri for devotees, announcing Subhadra Yojana for women’s empowerment, establishing a Rs 500 crore corpus fund for the development of the Jagannath Temple, and decision to provide Rs 800 bonus per quintal for paddy to farmers.

The Marathon Schedule

The day will witness a packed schedule of events, including a press conference by the CM during which he is expected to present the government’s performance scorecard, highlighting achievements over the past two years since assuming power on June 12, 2024, after ending the 24-year BJD rule in the state.

Key Launches and Initiatives Today

Launch of Chief Minister Annapurna Yojana: The scheme, aimed at bolstering food security, provides additional rice (typically 5 kg per person per month) to beneficiaries under the National Food Security Act and state schemes. It targets around 1 crore families (over 3 crore people) and involves significant state funding (reportedly in the thousands of crores). The formal launch follows earlier cabinet approval.

Smartphones for Anganwadi Workers: Distribution of smartphones to thousands of Anganwadi workers (part of a larger procurement of over 79,000 devices, including for supervisors and coordinators) to improve real-time monitoring under POSHAN Abhiyaan, nutrition tracking, and service delivery. The initiative, approved earlier with a budget around Rs 93 crore, supports women-centric grassroots governance.

Infrastructure Push: Announcements on road expansion and other projects in Bhubaneswar are expected.

The state-wide celebration will continue till June 22, with an outreach programme to showcase achievements and engage with beneficiaries of flagship schemes. The state government has also planned a major celebration at Rairangpur, the hometown of President Droupadi Murmu. Both President Murmu and Prime Minister Modi are scheduled to attend the anniversary programme on June 20. The event is expected to showcase the government’s achievements and roadmap for the future.
