Bhubaneswar: People of Odisha heaved a sigh of relief following the forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) that the south-west monsoon, which has remained dormant for over a week, would be active in the next 48 hours.
An IMD bulletin on Thursday said an east-west trough line from a cyclonic circulation over Bihar stretching up to East Bangladeshruns from the cyclonic circulation over north-west Uttar Pradesh to Sub-HimalayanWest Bengal while another cyclonic circulation over Central Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood lies over west–central and adjoining north–west Bay of Bengal.
Formation of the two cyclonic circulations has made the condition favourable for further advance of the south-west monsoon over the remaining parts Odisha between June 23 and 25, the bulletin said.
It further said that most parts of the coastal pockets will receive moderate to heavy rainfall during the period.
Meanwhile, the temperature plummeted in most parts of the state on Thursday. Barring Balangir (40.2) and Titilagarh (40), the temperature remained below 40 degree Celsius in the remaining areas.
