Paradip: Here’s a good news for fish lovers. The price of Hilsa has come down in the last two days in Odisha’s Paradip. The fish is now available at Rs 130 to Rs 450 a kg as against the earlier price of Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000.
There was palpable excitement among the people as they rushed to the nearest fish markets in Paradip as soon as the news of the drastic fall in price of Hilsa spread. They are also gifting the fish to their relatives, who are only too happy to have these on their platter.
According to the sources, the supply and catch of Hilsa has increased following the low pressure-triggered rain. In the absence godown space and adequate ice to stock the fish, vendors are selling these off at a much lower price.
In Paradip market, a pair of small-sized Hilsa is available for Rs 130 and the large ones at Rs 450.
The traders, however, will not face any loss because of this huge drop in price as they will continue to net more of these if the weather condition persists, the sources added.
