Monsoon Likely To Hit Odisha In 72 Hours, Says Skymet Weather

Bhubaneswar: Skymet Weather on Friday said that the southwest monsoon will hit the Odisha coast in 2-3 days.

“With some prominent systems persisting close to Odisha, the state will observe rain and thundershowers with increased intensity now. Due to increasing rains, the monsoon is expected to step in some parts of Odisha, particularly in southern and coastal areas, most probably in next two to three days,” said the private weather agency of India.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD), in a mid-day weather bulletin on Friday, said that the east-west trough line from Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal to the north-east Bay of Bengal, at 0.9km above the mean sea level, has become less marked. Apart from this, a cyclonic circulation over northeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal, extending up to 3.6km above the mean sea level with a trough line, has become less marked while another cyclonic circulation lies over south Assam and adjoining Bangladesh between 1.5km and 3.6km above the mean sea level with a trough line.

“Going by the modular study, the weather condition is now favourable for further advance of the southwest monsoon into some more parts of central Arabian Sea, Karnataka, remaining parts of Tamil Nadu, some more parts of the central Bay of Bengal, north and south Bay of Bengal and some more parts of north-east India and some parts of North Bengal and Sikkim in 2-3 days,” the bulletin said.

Notably, there has been sporadic rainfall in some parts of coastal and interior districts in Odisha for the past two days, which the weather agencies have said is the pre-monsoon rain.
