Monsoon Retreats, Low Pressure Brews Over Bay: No Warning Issued For Odisha Yet

Bhubaneswar: Even as southwest monsoon withdrew from more parts of Odisha on Monday, a low-pressure system brewing over the Bay of Bengal is expected to bring rain to the state’s coastal districts this week.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the cyclonic circulation, which persists over south Andaman Sea and neighbourhood, is likely to intensify into a low-pressure area over the Southeast Bay of Bengal around October 13. In its extended range outlook, the IMD has earlier stated that the system is likely to become more marked and move west-northwestwards towards North Tamil Nadu-South Andhra Pradesh coasts during subsequent 3-4 days.

The system is developing amid the withdrawal of the southwest monsoon and the activation of the northeast monsoon. However, unfavourable sea and atmospheric conditions are likely to limit its intensification, keeping it as a low-pressure area or a well-marked low-pressure area, weather experts said.
