Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Assembly witnessed an uproarious scene on the first day of the monsoon session forcing the Speaker to adjourn the House till 12.34 pm.
Earlier in the day, the Speaker had accepted the adjournment motion of BJP for a discussion on the drought situation in the district during the question hour and directed the Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment Minister Arun Kumar Sahoo to furnish a reply.
However, leader of the Congress Legislature Party Narasingha Mishra in a letter requested the Speaker to cancel the question hour and initiate a special discussion on the drought situation.
As the Speaker refused to cancel the question hour, the irate Congress members rushed to the well of the House and shouted slogans against the government.
Unable to conduct the proceedings, the Speaker adjourned the house till 12.34 pm.
