Monsoon Sets In, Very Heavy Rain To Drench Odisha Till June 26; Check IMD Forecast

Bhubaneswar: With the onset of Southwest Monsoon over Odisha, the Regional Meteorological Centre here has issued heavy rainfall warning for many districts of the state till June 26.

According to the MeT office, Southwest Monsoon has set in over Odisha and covered most parts of Malkangiri, some parts of Koraput and Gajapati districts. “Conditions are favourable for its further advance over remaining parts of Odisha, during next 2 days,” it said.

In view of advancement of south Monsoon and current meteorological situations fairly widespread to widespread rain/thundershower with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall and also lightning activity are very likely in Odisha during next 4 to 5 days. “Under its influence, temporary waterlogging is likely in some low-lying areas and traffic congestion in urban areas. It is advised to follow traffic advisory for movement and preparations for sowing of paddy crops and precautionary measure for lightning strikes while working in fields may be taken,” it added.

JUNE 22

Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely at one or two places in Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda.

Heavy rainfall at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Kendrapada, Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal and Jajpur.

Thunderstorm with lightning is also likely to occur at one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati during this period.

JUNE 23

Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places in Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Puri, Ganjam, and Kandhamal.

Heavy rainfall may also occur at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Balangir, Cuttack, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Dhenkanal.

Thunderstorm with lightning is also likely  at one or two places oin Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj.

JUNE 24

Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Boudh, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur and Kandhamal districts.

Heavy rainfall also likely at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh, Sundargarh, Bargarh, Balangir, Kalahandi and Nabarangpur.

JUNE 25

Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely at one or two places in Nuapada, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Kalahandi and Balangir.

Heavy rainfall may also occur at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Angul, Boudh and Kandhamal.

JUNE 26

Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places in Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Koraput, Kalahandi, Balangir, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Deogarh and Keonjhar.

Notably, Bhubaneswar recorded 59.8mm rainfall by 11.30 am and 90.4 mm rainfall by 2.30 pm.

The Met office further said that the day temperature is very likely to fall by 3 to degree Celsius at many places in Odisha during next 2 days with no large change thereafter.
