Monsoon Strikes Delhi & Mumbai On Same Day After Over Six Decades; Check Rain Forecast

Delhi/Mumbai: In a rare event, after over six decades, the Southwest Monsoon reached both Delhi and Mumbai at the same time on Sunday.

The monsoon had last covered the two metros on the same day on June 21, 1961, NDTV reported.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the rain-bearing system hit the national capital two days earlier than schedule while its entry into Mumbai was two weeks late. The monsoon, which had a slow start, made swift progress and has covered Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, northeast India, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, east Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, most parts of Himachal Pradesh, and some parts of Haryana, the weather office said.

“Southwest monsoon is active now. It has covered the whole of Maharashtra including Mumbai. Monsoon has also arrived in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and parts of Haryana, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab and Jammu. It will move forward in the next 2 days and will cover other parts also,” said IMD DG Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said.
