Monsoon To Cover Odisha In Next 24 Hours; Heavy Rain Forecast For 4 Days

Bhubaneswar: With the southwest monsoon advancing further into Odisha, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday issued a heavy rainfall warning for most parts of the state.

The IMD, in a mid-day bulletin, said that the monsoon had advanced into Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Bhadrak and Balasore districts, the remaining parts of Puri district, most parts of Nayagarh and Khurda districts and some parts of Cuttack, Jajpur and Mayurbhanj districts. Going by the modular study, it will cover the entire state in the next 24 hours.

The bulletin further said that while the low-pressure area lies over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of West Bengal and north Odisha, the associated cyclonic circulation tilting southwestwards is likely to become more marked and move west­northwestwards across Odisha, Jharkhand and North Chhattisgarh during the next 2­3 days. Apart from this, a monsoon trough is running from south Punjab to the centre of the low-pressure area.

Under its influence, there will be heavy to very heavy rainfall across the state till June 15.

June 12

Heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore and Kendrapada.

(Yellow Warning)
Heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Puri, Angul,  Deogarh, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Koraput and Nabarangpur.

June 13
(Yellow warning)
Heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of  Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj.

Heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Cuttack, Bhadrak, Balasore and Kendrapada.

June 14
(Yellow warning)
Heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of  Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar and Sambalpur.

Heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Boudh, Angul,  Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Bargarh, Jajpur and Deogarh.

June 15
(Yellow warning)
Heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Angul.

Due to inclement weather, fishermen are advised not to venture into the deep sea along and off the Odisha coast and north Bay of Bengal adjoining west-central Bay Bengal till June 14 as the squally weather with surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph will make the sea condition rough to very rough.
